Amazon’s Kindle – Can It Make Travel Easier For Bookworms? by Jane Toombes

Send to Kindle

When we travel, be it overnight or for a couple of weeks, one of the things many people take with them is a book or two. This might be a reading book or perhaps a travel book relating to the holiday destination. Either way books can be heavy and of course take up room when packing. So is there a better option?

Well, yes, an eBook reader is the ideal companion for many bookworm travellers. There are several of these on the market but Muchmor Canada Magazine takes a look at the Amazon Kindle which has repeatedly been named best eBook reader by companies such as Consumer Reports.

The Kindle is now in its third generation redesign and there are three models to choose from. The first and cheapest model is the Wi-Fi version which retails at $139 USD. It has a 6 inch screen that uses E Ink Pearl to display the books. It weighs only 8.5 ounces (240 grams) and the battery lasts approximately one month (wireless off).

The second model is the same as the Wi-Fi version but also includes 3G wireless coverage. It weighs a fraction more: 8.7 ounces (246 grams). It cost $189 USD.

The third option is the larger Kindle DX which boasts a 9.7 inch screen and includes Wi-Fi and 3G. It weighs 18.9 ounces (535 grams) and has a battery life of approximately 2-3 weeks (wireless off). This model is by far the dearest at $379.00 USD.

All models come in the new graphite finish and come with Amazon’s Whispernet technology which along with Wi-Fi networks allows instant searching and downloading from their Kindle book store.

So, does the Kindle live up to expectation?

Muchmor Canada Magazine tested the Kindle to find out if it was really as good as everyone says it is.

As an avid book reader I was very skeptical about using an eBook reader as I love the touch and feel of a book in my hands. This might sound a little odd to someone who is not a self-confessed bookaholic, but to anyone who is they will understand what I mean.

On first glance the Kindle looks very nice. The graphite finish adds a bit of class and feels good to hold. It is very light, lighter than a standard paperback and it feels comfortable in the hands.

There is a qwerty keyboard at the base of the device along with menu, home and back buttons. The 5-way controller allows you to navigate the screen with ease. Down the side of the screen are four large paddle-type buttons which allow you to turn pages forwards and backwards. The same buttons are on both sides to allow for right and left handed navigation.

I had the Wi-Fi version and so after initial charging I was anxious to try it out. I very quickly set up the Wi-Fi connection. It found the available network without any trouble and within a couple of minutes I was set to go.

My first task was to navigate to the Kindle store to search for and purchase a book. By pressing the menu button you have the option to go to the Kindle Store where you can search for books in the same way you would if accessing Amazon via the internet.

The store was easy to use and I soon found a book to download. I clicked on the buy option and it instantly downloaded the book to my Kindle. (You do need to set up the 1-click ordering option on your account to allow this to work.)

You can also search for and order books direct from the Amazon website. These will then download next time you switch on the Kindle if connected to Wi-Fi.

It is worth mentioning at this point that Amazon allows you to download a sample of a book before you purchase. By doing this you get the first few pages of a book to read allowing you to get a feel of the writing style etc before you buy. If you like it you simply click the buy now option and it downloads to your Kindle within seconds.

Reading books on the Kindle is a pleasure. The text can be changed to suite you. You can choose bigger or smaller characters, line spacing options and characters per line etc.

The E-Ink screen is very clear and easy to read even in bight daylight as there are no reflections to hinder you and no LCD backlight to wash it out. On the downside because it does not have a backlight option reading in low light requires additional illumination. Amazon does offer the option of cases with lights but these need to be purchased separately (approximately $60 USD). They also use the Kindle’s battery to power it and so the battery life will be reduced.

As you turn the pages the screen has to refresh, but this is very quick and should not hinder your reading experience. According to other reports and reviews the Kindle does have one of the fastest page-turn speeds of all the available readers.

The Kindle can store up to 3,500 books and you can set up collections (folders) to store them in. You can add the same book to several collections if you wish. You can also archive books which takes them off the device, but keeps them stored in your Amazon account so you never lose them. You can also download pdf files and read them on the Kindle.

You also have the ability to add annotations and bookmarks to text. This allows you to add notes, highlight passages etc. These notes can be deleted or exported if required.

One cool option is the built-in dictionary. If you come across a word or phrase you don’t understand you can access the dictionary and it will give you the definition.

Also, if you don’t feel like looking at the screen or even turning pages and reading yourself, the Kindle will do it for you. It has a Read-to-me feature which when activated will read the text to you and even turn the pages making it completely hands-free. You can choose the voice it uses as well as the speed of speech. Cool eh?

Another feature the Kindle has is a web browser, so you can access the internet. I personally found this strange as you will be looking at the internet in grey tones only – no colour which can be odd. However, it can be handy if you just want to quickly look something up. Navigation is not ideal as you have to use the 5-way controller but if you want a device to access the internet on a regular basis, then the Kindle is not the one for you. After all it is an e-reader.

One other feature worth mentioning is the Kindle supports MP3 files so you can transfer your favourite tracks to the Kindle and listen to music whilst you read. I like to read in silence so this feature is not for me.

But is it good for travel?

I would absolutely recommend the Kindle for travel of all kinds. It is so light and thin it will fit into the tightest of packing bags. If you are travelling for any length of time you can simply pack a Kindle knowing you have a whole library of books available to you at any time.

You can download a travel or guide book so when you reach your destination you have all the details of the area to hand. The Kindle will fit into most women’s purses, so is handy to have for those impromptu destination checks.

If you are like me, I never know what type of book I will be reading next and tend to have several in reserve for when I finish a book. This allows me to choose a new book depending on my mood at the time. With a Kindle I don’t need to have lots of books sitting on the shelf waiting for the time I am ready to read them. As soon as I finish one book I can select another and download it within seconds. The Kindle is ideal for those long car or plane journeys, or simply as I found when waiting at the garage for my vehicle to be serviced.

Muchmor Results

Overall I found the whole reading experience to be very good and much better than I had anticipated. I have not missed the feel of a book in my hands. This is something that has shocked me as I really thought a gadget of this type would not sway me from reading traditional books – but guess what – it has! No one is more shocked about this than me.

I am now on my third book on the Kindle and cannot see myself ever buying another traditional reading book again. I specify reading book, as there are other types of book I would not choose to read on the Kindle. Graphic heavy books or coffee-table type books do not work well on the Kindle as the screen only displays in 16 shades of grey, so photos lose their impact.

But for ease of use, convenience and overall reading experience Muchmor Canada Magazine cannot recommend the Kindle enough.

A Dummie Guide To Make Money Online With Fiverr by Adam Stansfield

Send to Kindle

BooksIf you are truly serious about making money online with Fiverr, then you need to be equipped with some basic models. There are loads of people o Fiverr that have been making lots of money and also, there are loads that have not made a dime. The simple reason is because the first sets of people are equipped with these basic models while the latter sets are not.

In this article, I will share with you basic principle you need to follow to make money with Fiverr.

A: The first basic principle you need to know is deciding what you want to offer or sell to people on Fiverr. On Fiverr, all gigs/tasks are sold for $5, so you need to decide what you can offer for $5. After your sale, $1 goes to Fiverr and $4 gets credited to your account. So, deciding what you can sell for $5 is the first and most important step. You should not be wasting your time creating a website, composing a song or some strenuous tasks for $5 on Fiverr instead, you should be thinking about a task you can get done in ten minutes or so!

B: After deciding what to offer on Fiverr, the next step is designing your title ad. This is as important as deciding what to sell. The ad is what catches the attention of potential buyers. It necessarily does not need to be long but it must be catchy! Make sure you let people know what you are offering but do not disclose all the details. Keep them guessing so they can click the ad and check the content of the ad!

C: When you must have designed your ad, the next step is including the appropriate picture to make your ad lively. Including a picture in your ad is very important and must be related to what you are offering. If your ad is about Social networking or social marketing, it would be wise to include a picture of Facebook, Twitter or Flickr. This will make your ad lively and prompt people to click on it.

D: Including videos in your ad is a good option but it is not compulsory. It has not been proven that gigs with videos sell more than gigs without. Nevertheless, if you can include a video, do so but your ad will work well with just a picture.

E: When your ad is live, you should try as much as possible to make it easy for people to locate your ad. Note that you have a limited number of ads to display on Fiverr (twenty to be precise), so if your ad is not getting enough views, you can always edit and tweak it to start receiving views and clicks. If your gigs are viewed well and delivered promptly, they stand the chance of getting featured thereby getting you more orders.

F: The next step is making sure your gigs get positive ratings. This is possible if you deliver your orders promptly and with the promise in the ad. Nevertheless, if your gig gets a thumbs-down, do not be discouraged, you can always get positive rating with new quality gigs!

G: Finally, your efforts should not stop at creating quality gigs. You need to market your gigs for them to get maximum exposure. Use the power of Social Marketing /networking. Advertize you ads on Facebook, Twitter and so on. Use the power of word-of-mouth to maximize the publicity of your gig. Market them anyhow. Just get them exposed!

Make Your Way to an Online eBook Shop by Jim L. Thomas

BooksThe first decade of the current century has seen a remarkable paradigm shift in the way the printed word has changed. The pyramid of media hierarchy now has a new leader, namely the Internet. Welcome to the Digital Age! While reading the printed word was among the most common pastimes even a few years ago, with the advent of portable eBook readers, such as the Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble Nook, Sony Reader, and the iPad, this has now been replaced by ebooks. There has been a growing concern among educators as to how reading is on the decline, and how it affects the knowledge of middle school and high school children. Just like any other industry in the online world, the eBook industry has a plethora of eBook shops to find virtually anything you desire. Literacy experts have opined that the choices available at eBook shops can help children to have varied and deep knowledge, and studies suggest more and more children are becoming involved in the online reading community. Online reading can tune them to the needs of the modern day. Isn’t it a wonderful choice to replace television or the gaming console with online reading? There has been a dynamic shift even amongst adults, in their attitudes towards books. Ebooks are the page turners today to bring them back to old habits!

Today everybody, young and old, should familiarize themselves with the growing eBook industry. Ebooks and eBook readers provide substantial benefits over traditional reading. Ebooks cut down on the use of paper, as advocated by environmental enthusiasts. There are no fixed timings for study. There is no question of waiting-time for new editions. There is no transportation to the eBook shop. The books at an eBook shop can be downloaded instantly, sometimes for free, sometimes for a fee. Not just that, the online version of books are typically much cheaper, because publication houses save on their print and paper machinery, the benefits of which are passed on to customers. Further, the reach of the eBook shop is immense, allowing a person living in Australia to source out to a publication house in Chicago.

The newest craze in the online eBook world is what are called eBook libraries, or eBook packages. An eBook package is something out of the ordinary. It consists of a large number of ebooks bundled together that are not easily available at one single place. So instead of hunting down and purchasing, say 100 literary classics, you can purchase an eBook package which contains all these ebooks bundled together. These eBook libraries typically offer a substantial savings, and are usually offered in a variety of formats to suit your brand of eBook reader. Large companies, such as Amazon or Barnes & Noble, tend to not carry these eBook libraries. If you want to purchase one of these libraries, you will have to search out independent eBook shops. These independent eBook shops typically package the eBook libraries by genre, and have a wide selection of genres.

Plunge into the world of fiction, non-fiction, science and history! You can enjoy an outstanding reading experience without having to venture out to the library or mall. The online world of reading beckons one and all with open hands. Indeed, the children of tomorrow have the privilege to grow up with ebooks. Ebooks are the best option; and the portable eBook reader, the best buddy!

Jim L. ThomasJim L. Thomas suggests you visit the Green eBook Shop to peruse the large selection of free ebooks and to have a look at the collection of ebook libraries for your portable ebook reader.

Wanna Make More Money Selling eBooks? Sell Re Brandable eBooks by Matt B Carter

BooksWhile eBook sales are not a new thing, there is a new twist to eBook selling that is allowing sellers to make even more money than they ever have. Re brandable eBooks are that twist. Offering this type of eBook is really gaining in popularity because of the amazing income potential they offer over traditional master resale rights products. What is a re brandable eBook? Why do they make sellers more money than regular ones? What is used to produce a re brandable PDF file?

The concept of re branding is pretty simple. The creator of an eBook will set up certain links or text phrases that they allow someone to change. Usually this includes links to affiliate programs of the creator, or allowing the name of the reseller to be published, or even allowing the reseller to include their website link.

Offering free re branding benefits both the creator of the product and the customer buying it. As the creator, you are more likely to have other people selling your eBook if you offer a way for them to insert their own links or affiliate links into your product. Also, if you run affiliate programs you will make the number of affiliates promoting your product grow quickly through this “viral marketing” method.

As a customer who is buying this product, it gives many more income chances than a traditional resell rights eBook. Most eBooks that allow reselling do not allow you to alter the contents. The author or creator gets all the profits from sales generated from the pages of the eBook. As as reseller, I am much more likely to offer this type of eBook to my customers because of the extra income opportunities.

How do you make a re brandable eBook? There are several methods and different products that are used to do this. I’ll quickly go over the two major methods used for PDF eBooks, as most customers no longer prefer any other type.

The first option is to use website scripts. One advantage to this type of branding is that it can drive traffic to your website. In order for someone to re brand your eBook, they are forced to go to a website to enter their details and produce their PDF. Another advantage to using a web script is that it works for all types of computers. Anyone that can get online can use it. I have seen and tested several web scripts that perform this function. There is one out there that is free that works pretty well. The biggest disadvantage to this method of branding is the work involved. The scripts I tested required me to create an all new HTML version of my eBooks, insert special codes for page breaks, and upload all the pictures involved. You have to do this for every eBook. You also have to send people to different places on your website for each eBook. It could get confusing and was more work than I like to do!

The second option is using a program. This is how I create my re brandable eBooks. This is by far the easiest option for a creator. You make your PDF eBook as normal and just change a few lines inside of it and add couple of commands to it. You then go through about a five minute process to sign your eBook and make it ready for branding by your customer. The customer brands your eBook by using a program that you include inside the download. The major disadvantage to using a program is that some users won’t be able to use your re branding tool. While most Mac users can operate windows based programs, there are still a few out there who can’t. There are several programs out there who will do this. I personally tested two of them. I ended up choosing the program that offered me an affiliate program, as the other didn’t have that.

Making a re brandable eBook is a great way to increase your sales. Not only will you sell more copies of the eBook yourself, but your customers are more likely to re sell your eBook. Then you set off a great spiral of “viral marketing” that can have, literally, thousands of people selling your products for you. Therefore you make more money with a re brandable eBook over a standard eBook.

–While eBook sales are not a new thing, there is a new twist to eBook selling that is allowing sellers to make even more money than they ever have. Re brandable eBooks is that twist. Offering this type of eBook is really gaining in popularity because of the amazing income potential they offer over traditional eBooks.

Understanding the eBook Evolution by Kathryn Lively

BooksMaybe you have seen offers for them on various websites. Maybe you attended a book fair and noticed some authors selling CD-ROMs alongside paperbacks. Maybe you sat next to somebody at a coffee shop as he read a document on his laptop or personal digital assistant. You might think such things are limited to business some other type of work, but the electronic book, or eBook, is fast becoming a mainstream industry. While eBooks may never achieve the popularity or demand of the printed word, eBook readership is definitely growing and will prove a viable form of media in the future.

What is an eBook?

Before one can delve into specifics about electronic publishing, it is important to note exactly what an eBook is and what purpose an eBook serves. Simply put, the term “electronic book” is self-explanatory: an eBook can be a novel, collection of stories and/or poetry, self-help manual, a treatise, or any document of book length. eBooks may be as short as five thousand words or well over a hundred thousand. Some eBooks may have illustrations and charts embedded within the pages, and others may prove to be more interactive and feature audio and/or video capability.

Some eBooks are registered with Books in Print and made available as downloadable files or on CD-ROMs. Some eBook publishers assign ISBN numbers to their titles, while others may register the works with the US Copyright Office. Many publishers consider eBook production a subsidiary right in their contracts, and may option those rights from an author during negotiations.

The fundamental difference between an eBook and a print book, of course, is that the eBook is an electronic document devised to be read on a computer or special handheld device. eBooks are easy to produce and can be made available in a variety of formats, including but not limited to:

HTML – presented as a simple Web page

Adobe PDF – presented to look like an actual document onscreen, read with Adobe Reader

Microsoft LIT – a special format for the Microsoft Reader and Pocket PC

Mobipocket (.PRC) – a special format compatible handheld PDAs like the Palm or old Handspring devices.

EXE – popular among non-fiction eBooks, this self-extracting format presents the book in a unique form that allows the reader to “turn pages”

However an eBook is produced, special reading software may be required to read the document. While a simple HTML document needs only a web browser, others with different extension may not open in certain readers. It is best to always check with a vendor before purchasing an eBook to make sure you can open the file.

What is the purpose of an eBook?

Electronic books are used for the same purposes as print books, namely for entertainment, business, or news.

Entertainment: these are generally novels and short story/poetry collections. Such eBooks are primarily found through specific websites by top NYC publishers that offer electronic downloads, or through smaller publishers who offer books in electronic and print on demand formats. eBooks from smaller companies may be priced according to length and genre, from two dollars to as high as eight for longer works. eBooks from established publishers may cost more, priced to match their print companions. Popular genres for leisure reads in electronic format include romance, science fiction, and erotica.

Works in the public domain, including novels from the nineteenth century, may be presented in eBook format to download for free. The Gutenberg Library online houses thousands of such works for personal and educational use.

Business: Look around the Internet and you may find a number of sales websites offering eBooks that reveal “secrets to success.” Online entrepreneurs use the eBook format for its simplicity and low-cost production to market ideas and products to customers. In this realm you may find books on how to open a successful online business or how to lose weight. Books of this sort may be distributed free to attract return business or may be sold for as much as thirty dollars for a self-extracting document.

News: Companies or organizations may employ the eBook format to distribute white papers or other important documents. Government reports, business trends, and other information in the public domain may be available in this format.

How are eBooks distributed?

The most common forms of eBook distribution are through the individual publisher’s website and third-party retailers.

The Publisher: Whether it is an established NYC house, a small eBook press or a self-publishing author, chances are high there is a website created to tout the book. A quick Internet search for eBook publishers will land many leads. Such websites offer either immediate download of an eBook through a weblink, or delivery via e-mail as an attachment. Other publishers may burn eBooks to CD-ROM and ship them to customers.

The Third-Party Store: Online retailers like Amazon.com, BN.com, and Fictionwise are good examples of eBook retailers. Such sites offer eBooks for immediate download and may even keep your information on account and make recommendations on future purchases. Such retailers, like eBook publishers, will accept payment through electronic transfer to expedite the sale.

The Future of eBooks

Given the ease of production and distribution, it is likely eBooks may become an important medium in the future. As technology evolves and reading devices become more sophisticated, sales of eBook fiction may rise in the years to come. Handheld eBook readers have the advantage of being able to store several books at once, and offer backlighting for reading in dark places. Cost prohibition on devices and certain eBooks may be the only factor preventing a boom right now, but in time as prices become competitive that may change.

For authors, eBook publication represents the opportunity to polish writing skills and test readership. For entrepreneurs, eBook publication offers a new avenue to product promotion and increasing sales. Whatever your plans for the eBook are, it can be said that electronic books are here to stay.

Creating a Christian eBook Cover by Jacyee Aniagolu-Johnson

Send to Kindle

BooksYou probably have heard the saying, “don’t judge a book by its cover.” But in reality people do in fact judge a book by its cover. It is the first thing they see that makes the book content tangible to them, and many individuals within a split moment of setting their eyes on a book cover decide whether they think a book is worth their money and time. So, what is my point exactly? Creating an excellent Christian ebook cover is just as important as its rich, valuable content. It is the cover of your ebook that may make someone decide to read the excerpt about your ebook content, and possibly purchase and download it to read. Therefore, creating a Christian ebook cover is not a task that you can afford to take lightly or for granted. This is a critical component of the creation of your Christian ebook, as well as its promotion and marketing success.

An ebook is a digital product that is also digitally delivered. So, 100% of your customers or readers encounter your Christian ebook online. These customers at the same time see many other ebooks. So, how do you get them to focus on your own ebook with its Christian content? Even if your Christian ebook is free, you still need to generate enough interest and curiosity in your potential readers to get them to download it, and hopefully, read it.

You need to master the art of designing your own ebook cover; one, because it is essential, and two, because it would cost you a bit to hire a graphics designer to design covers for all the ebooks that you plan to write. So, you do need to learn to “fish” for and by yourself. Also, as an author of a Christian ebook you need to capture the vision of your inspiration on the cover.

Deciding on what ebook cover creator software that you are to invest your money to purchase, and time to learn how to use, should depend on a number of factors:

1. Your budget. How much money do you currently have? Sometimes, your budget may in fact be a full circle zero. Yes, I mean that literally. So, what do you do? You cannot purchase an ebook cover creator software for zero dollars? Here’s what I suggest in this kind of situation: search the Internet for free PDF software such as Primo PDF program, which is a Free PDF Converter Tool. This is not a trial PDF version; it is actually free. So, download and install this free PDF application. Write your Christian ebook in a word processing program. Hopefully, you have access to a word program, such as Microsoft word. You can convert your word file to a PDF file using the free PDF converter tool that you downloaded and installed on your personal computer. You can also create a cover design in word, yes I know this sounds unreal, but you can actually do this, and then convert it to a PDF file. This is for a zero budget, for writing and creating your first Christian ebook. This is very possible and doable.

2. You have limited budget for creating an ebook and its cover, and you do not wish to be bothered with the “technical” aspects of ebook creation. Write and edit your ebook and then submit your ebook to a Christian website that charges zero dollars to less than $40.00 or higher. They will publish and sell your ebook at no additional cost to you. You will receive royalty payment for every time someone buys your ebook.

3. You have a reasonable budget and plan to write multiple Christian ebooks. You can invest in purchasing an ebook cover creator software application. Prices can range from $19.99 to less than $200. You may even get cheaper prices on eBay. My suggestion is that you start with minimal cost or investment that will offer you a high yield on your investment. In other words, purchase an ebook cover creator software that does not cost much, creates brilliant covers and is easy to use. Get independent opinions from other individuals who have used different kinds of ebook cover creator software, that is, before you commit to purchasing one. Read ebook Blogs and sample individual opinions about ebook cover creator software. Be vigilant in your sampling of opinions because sometimes the owners of the software post favorable opinions to get people to purchase their product.

Many of the ebook cover creator software owners also offer re-sell rights. So, you buy the software and you can also sell it to others. This way, you can make some profit, or at the very least, recover the money you invested in purchasing the software.

As a Christian ebook writer, creator and publisher, who may give away an ebook for free, or decide to start selling such ebooks, you do not have the option to produce low quality ebooks. Aside from the fact that you have numerous competitors, both from the secular and Christian ebook markets, you also need to represent excellent works for the Body of Christ, God’s Kingdom here on earth. If you plan to teach, preach or evangelize with your Christian ebooks, then you must present quality covers and content that can and will gain and sustain the focus of your readers. I stress that you really need to select a good ebook cover creator software that makes brilliant covers, and at the same time, is easy to use. The same applies to the ebook creator software that you choose to purchase and use in creating your Christian ebook.

Don’t loose out on potential readers by presenting a low quality, or mediocre Christian ebook cover. Let the light of the glory of God who inspires you to write also reflect on your first and subsequent ebook covers. God is excellent in all His ways and has also given us a spirit of excellence. So, let your Christian ebook cover stand out above others, especially your secular competitors.

Remember that an ebook cover makes the content more tangible and more real to your potential readers. This is an instant subconscious process that could work in your favor, if you have a brilliant, professional and inspirational Christian ebook cover. Also, excellent images tend to stick to a person’s subconscious memory. So, you want to design a Christian ebook cover that is hard to ignore or forget.

How to Make Money Selling Ebooks by Terri Seymour

Send to Kindle

BooksIf you are looking for ways to make money online or to expand your existing home business, selling ebooks could be just what you need. Selling ebooks is easy, affordable and there are practically no expenses (other than purchasing the ebooks). You might want to write some of the ebooks yourself to save money and to help spread the word about you and your business!

You can either purchase ebooks with or without resell rights. I would recommend buying ebooks with resell rights so your customers have an additional reason to purchase from you. They can then sell the ebooks themselves!

There are several ways you can set up your new ebook selling site or ebook store.

Sell on eBay

You can auction off your ebooks on eBay. eBay has very specific policies on selling ebooks so be SURE to read and follow all their policies.

Offer Ebooks on Your Site

If you already have a site, you can easily offer the ebooks on your existing site. Make a folder called ebooks (or whatever you like) and upload it to your host. Upload all your ebooks into this folder. Give them keyed names so people will not be able to guess the file name.

For example: if you have an ebook called Ezine Publishing and you call the file ezinepublishing.zip, this could make it very easy for someone to “guess” the download link by the name and download the ebook for free.

You want to code the names- for example:

instead of ezine publishing, you might name the file ez-pub-32c.zip These coded names are nearly impossible for people to guess so they are unable to steal the ebook.

Then add an index page where you would introduce your ebook store to your visitors. Let them know there will be no shipping cost as they are delivered electronically. Make sure you introduce your ebook store on your site homepage as well.

You might also want to list the categories on the index page so your customers can click directly to the ebooks they are interested in. Have a short description of the ebook and a graphic (if possible). You can have a whole page for each ebook or you can put several on a page.

Go to PayPal and make up a button to put on your site for ordering. If you do not like PayPal, use any payment service you want.

**TIP – To avoid the time of making up each individual button, use the code from the first button and just change the necessary info like price, item name and code. This will save you a lot of time in setting up your ebook store.

Automatic Digital Delivery

You can purchase a program for setting up your store and having all purchases automatically delivered. This saves you a lot of time plus gives your customers the items immediately which helps with repeat sales.

One such program that does this very well is called The Digital Store. Do a search for this or automatic digital delivery ebooks and you will find a wide variety of scripts/programs to suit your needs.

Be sure to continually add new ebooks for your existing customers. We have had numerous repeat sales by doing this. Also, you might want to have a mailing list to keep people up to date of your new additions and any specials or sales you may be having.

Affiliate Programs

You can also sell other people’s ebooks by joining their affiliate program. This means that for every ebook you sell, you will get a commission from the ebook owner. If you write your own ebook, you could also start your own affiliate program. To find such programs just do a search for ebook affiliate programs.

If you do purchase and/or write your own ebooks for resale, be sure and choose/write the ebooks with a lot of useful, helpful information and resources. There are a lot of ebooks that are simply full of ads and sales letters for the writer’s products. You want to steer clear of these types of ebooks.

People love to buy and read good ebooks and if you offer a good selection and price, they will continue to buy from you.

Ebooks — Self-Publishing Your Way to Internet Success: Part 3 Ebook Formats (HTML)

Send to Kindle

Shelly LoweryIn part 2 of this series, we focused on ebooks formatted in PDF. We will now continue with HTML compiled ebooks.

Hypertext Markup Language Format (HTML)

Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) formatted ebooks are simply a group of web pages compressed into one .exe file for distribution. HTML ebooks are completely interactive with the Internet and can be as simple or dynamic as you’d like. Your HTML files can contain live links, graphics, forms, JavaScript, embedded video, and more. You can easily create a dynamic presentation utilizing the latest technology.

Ebooks formatted in HTML are basically designed just like website. They can contain an unlimited number of pages that are navigated via hyperlinks. Unlike ebooks formatted in PDF, the design of an HTML ebook is only limited by your imagination.

Depending upon the type of HTML compiler you purchase, HTML formatted ebooks can have customizable fields that will enable your users to customize fields you specify. This technology can enable you to provide your affiliates with an ebook they can use as a sales tool to sell your products and services. Your affiliates can have the ability to customize your ebook with their affiliate ID and earn commissions simply by giving the ebook away.

HTML files can be distributed in the following ways:

– Internet download

– CD-ROM

Advantages:

– Complete control over your ebook’s look and feel.

– Completely interactive with the Internet.

– Software very reasonably priced starting at $30.00

– Most compilation software is easy to use.

– A wide variety of ebook compilers to choose from.

Disadvantages:

– Users must have the ability to run “Windows” programs.

– Users must have Internet Explorer 4.0+ installed on their
computer.

Compilers:

E-ditor (Recommended)

This is a nice ebook compiler that includes a step by step interface that will guide you through the entire process. Unlike other programs, this compiler comes with five “skins” to enable your ebooks to have a unique look. It also includes a pop-up message box that loads prior to your ebook loading when your ebook is launched. This box can contain system requirements, copyrights or whatever text you’d like.

Cost: $97.00

eBook Edit Pro (Highly Recommended)

This is a great ebook compiler. Not only is it easy to use, but it also includes a pop-up message box that loads prior to your ebook loading. In addition, you can display your own product icon and select the buttons you would like to be displayed such as, navigational, print and home buttons. It also has an added feature that enables you to include an affiliate ID within every ebook you create and make money for referral sales. As an added bonus for purchasing this great compiler, you will also receive an “eBrand-It” software that will enable you to set up special fields so that your affiliates can customize your ebook. A free demo is available. This is a great compile.

Cost: $87.50

Activ E-book (Recommended)

This program isn’t as easy as E-ditor Pro or eBook Edit Pro, but with the aid of the instructions you can easily create a nice ebook. The great thing about this compiler is that it assigns an ESBN number to each ebook you compile. In addition, this great compiler will also enable you to create a “Rebranding” software. This additional software can be used to enable your users to modify parts of the ebook that you specify without recompiling. It also has a free demo that is fully functional for up to 10 files to be compiled (including graphics). You can create and distribute ebooks with the free demo, but you must register the software if you’d like to sell your ebooks.

Cost: $29.95

As you can see, both ebook formats have a number of advantages and disadvantages and the decision may be a little difficult.

The best ebook format for your project will really depend upon your own preference. However, it is also important to take into consideration the type of ebook you’re creating and the number of pages it will contain. For example, if you’ve written a manuscript with hundreds of pages and have it typed into your word processing program, you won’t want to waste your time creating an HTML page for each page of your ebook. Your best option will be to purchase Adobe Acrobat and compile your ebook into the PDF format. HTML compiled ebooks are better for smaller projects such as “how-to”, “instructional” or “informational” ebooks.

Another consideration of great importance is your sales plan. If you’re planning on marketing your ebook yourself, then it really doesn’t matter which format you use. However, if you’re planning on selling your ebook on one of the ebook publishing sites, many of them will only accept ebooks in the PDF format.

A good way to cover all of your bases is to simply publish your ebook in both formats. Let your customers decide which format they would prefer.

In part 4 of this series, we will focus on designing an ebook in PDF format.

Publish Your Own Ebook by Amin Sadak

Send to Kindle

BooksIn my case, I publish ebooks for money – the number 1 motivation behind all ebooks on the internet today.

But do you even know how to start?

Do you have any idea about the topic you want to write about?

How about the actual compilation of the ebook?

What about marketing the ebook once you’ve compiled it?

All of these factors need to be addressed before you start work on your project.

First of all, you’ll need to get the logistics right. Will you be writing your ebook in MS Word or will you be typing it directly into some sort of ebook publishing software?
Most authors start their work in MS Word and then transfer it to an ebook compiler software program when they have finished.

Which topic will you write about? Many experienced authors suggest that you write about a topic you are passionate about. This is common sense and works well if you know a lot about one particular topic.

Most people don’t have in-depth knowledge in one particular area which limits their chances of writing a concise ebook.
However, there are ways around this and you can pick up more information about writing for money from:
http://www.ebook-publishing-software.com

For example, you can visit http://www.elance.com and hire “ghost writers” to write an ebook for you which you can then sell online.

Next, you need to decide which format you’d like your ebook available in. PDF ebooks are quite common and can be read by anyone who has Adobe Reader installed on their computer.
Unfortunately, PDF ebooks are not as secure as EXE ebooks. EXE ebooks are made using specific ebook publishing software programs.

Some eBook Software titles include:

eBook Pro

eBook Edit Pro

Activ eBook Compiler

Easy eBook pro

eBook Starter

and much more…

Read reviews about these ebook generators at
http://www.ebook-publishing-software.com

The disadvantage of using EXE ebook makers to compile and distribute your work is the fact that they can’t be used on Macintosh computers. If you want to cater for 90% of computer users, then an EXE ebook will be fine. If you wish to compile for absolutely everyone, you’ll need the less secure PDF method of compiling.

Once compiled, use the in-built password/security features of the ebook software to protect your ebook if you need to.

What do you do once you have you’re ebook ready for distribution to the World Wide Web?
Now, you need to start thinking about marketing. There are many ways to market your ebook but the most common method is to build a website explaining the benefits of your ebook. Explain what problems it can solve for the reader.

To drive traffic to your website, you can do several things , each of which take time and hard work.

1) Optimize your website for visits from the Search Engines so you may rank higher than your competitors.

2) Pay for visits to your website by advertising on Google AdWords or any other Pay-Per-Click advertising method.

3) Pay a company a set fee to deliver thousands of visitors to your site

In addition to the above, there are many ways to bring visitors to your site. For example, you can buy pop-under traffic, expired domain traffic, newspaper advertising, ezine advertising and joint ventures.

Once you start to get a steady stream of visitors to your site, you’ll start to see your ebook sales rise.

How to Harness the Power of eBooks for the Benefit of Your Website! By William Johnston

Books
Send to Kindle

Ebooks can be a powerful tool when it comes to promoting and profiting from your website. To be able to benefit from ebooks, it is important to know how to use them to their full potential.

There are two big ways in which ebooks can be used to benefit you and your site:

  1. Promotion
  2. Profiting

Both of these are extremely important. Without promoting your site and receiving enough visitors, it is impossible to profit, which is the ultimate aim of a successful internet business.

Promotion:

Ebooks are especially good for advertising your website. They cost almost nothing to produce and can be easily distributed via an email. You can either use an ebook which you have created yourself, or you can use another author’s ebook, provided you have permission. Here is how to promote your site to unknown levels using an ebook:

– Use an ebook with a broad appeal, so as to achieve a maximum range of interest from many people. However, try to keep the ebook relevant to your site’s subject matter. This way, those who travel to your site through the ebook will find more that interests them on your site. This is how to turn browsers of your ebook into buyers on your site.

– Once you have chosen your ebook’s subject try to write the content similarly to your site. Add a link to the site you want to promote at the beginning and end of every page in the ebook. Make sure that these links are visible, and that it is made clear to the viewer where these links go to. Within the content of the ebook, while talking about something which can be found directly at your site, a link can also be added. However, make sure not to clutter your ebook with links and ads. This looks unprofessional and gives viewers a bad impression.

– Having finished the ebook’s content, check furiously for spelling mistakes or missing punctuation. These mistakes lead the viewer to believe that the author is unprofessional and even that the site may be insecure and badly run.

– Now comes a crucial part. Make sure on the very front of the ebook, or somewhere where everyone will be able to see, that you have put a statement such as this:

“You may redistribute this ebook freely so long as the content inside remains the same”

This will mean that anyone who receives your ebook will be able to pass it on, so long as they don’t change it. Given the fact that ebooks are a very popular form of displaying information nowadays, people are very likely to give your ebook away, whether it be a freebie on their site or a gift to newcomers. More and more people will have a copy of your ebook, with your link which goes straight back to your site. People are bound to click on your link if they’re interested.

– Now with your completed ebook, you can start distributing. Give it to all your friends and family and anyone else who you know. Tell them to distribute it everyone in their email address book. Do not be afraid to contact a site which sells or gives away ebooks and ask them if they will distribute it. The chances are that they will. Big ebook sites need new ebooks to keep going. Contact sites which have a similar subject matter as the subject of your ebook and ask them if they will distribute it. Don’t forget to distribute your ebook freely on your own site, because this will gain your site popularity. If you need help distributing your ebook, my site [http://www.info-ebooks.co.uk] would be happy to distribute it for you.

Once you have distributed a number of copies, if you have distributed it well to many sets of people, your ebook will soon be all over the internet. People will start clicking on your links from all over the web and in addition, you have also made a small name for yourself on the web. This will increase the popularity and trust in your site.

Profiting:

Obviously through the promoting of your website using ebooks, the profits will increase. However, there are other ways in which to profit using ebooks:

– The most obvious way to make money through ebooks is by selling them. However, there are already many huge companies doing this and it is hard for little companies and websites to keep up. Nevertheless, try to offer just that little bit extra on your ebook deal compared to everyone else’s. You have to try and make your deal seem special. Add a couple of bonuses and maybe a useful bit of software too.

– Profit through ebooks by offering them as a bonus with another, more expensive product you are selling on your website. You would be surprised at how a browser will choose your product over others, just because your product has an ebook free with it. If you can make this ebook relevant to the item you are coupling it with, or you could make the ebook yourself, then more people will buy from you and people will be prepared to pay more. The ebook costs you nothing either so it is a perfect give-away.

– Affiliate links can also be posted in ebooks you create yourself. Earn yourself money by placing these links in relevant places in the content of the ebook. For example if your ebook talks about music, then include a link to a popular music website which you know will give you a slice of the profits if a sale is made. If your ebook is distributed correctly, your affiliate link could be viewed by thousands of people per week. The site I recommend for affiliate marketing is http://www.clickbank.com

– Also think about putting a very limited amount of ads in your ebook. Many companies will pay you to put an ad in your ebook. However, there is a very fine line between making money through ads and losing money due to too many unprofessional ads. Try to make your ads blend into your ebook and make them relevant to the subject matter too.

Most importantly with ebooks, always be thinking of new ways in which you think you could distribute them or use them to profit. Creativity is a key part of a successful ebook marketing campaign.
