Question: What do you think prepared you or qualifies you to write in your chosen genre?

Answer: The Lord! Yes, the Lord. He’s the one who started it all. I was never prepared or qualified. As Paul said, “It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God.” (2 Cor. 3:5 NLT) Six months after my illness started in 2000, the Lord whispered to my heart to write for Him. Who me, Lord? I thought He was joking! All I’d ever written was some stinky poetry.

But He certainly wasn’t kidding! I started researching the book He led me to write. And I’ve been obedient to His call since then.

Question: Tell us a little about your “real” (Non-writing) life — family, job, church life. Does it give you inspiration for your writing? Does it get in the way of your writing, or are there times when you get help, from people or circumstances?

Answer: My real life? At my age and with illness, I’m not able to work. Church is a thing of the past as well. Without books and online and TV church services (especially the church we belong to), I’m sure I would dry up like a leaf in fall!

We belong to a wonderful, large non-denominational church. For years, we were involved in the new member ministry. I miss it all.

In July, my husband and I will celebrate 48 years together. We have two sons, 45 (who lives one mile from us) and 41 (who lives in Los Angeles), and one daughter (who lives outside Orlando), 39. Three grand-daughters, 13, 5, and 4, grace our home on a weekly basis.

Inspiration? Oh, my! That comes from everywhere! The Lord uses all the things of everyday life to inspire me, from the mundane to the precious and divine.

Question: Have you done anything writing-related, besides your books, that seemed to get a lot of positive response? Something that encouraged you?

Answer: Oh, my, yes! My readers bless me with encouragement all the time. I have written for numerous sites and received some very precious comments. Having just recently resigned from four sites, I now write monthly for two sites, quarterly for one site, and twice weekly for my site.

Question: Tell us about your newest book. Make us want to read it.

Answer: The book the Lord led me to write, the one that sits on the shelf, breathing deep sighs of impatience, is Ready or Not…Here I Come! Based on the sacred, ancient Hebrew betrothal tradition, the book contains twelve chapters that escort the reader on an exciting, personal journey of discovery, insight, and inspiration.

Each chapter digs deep into biblical history and ancient customs and mingles them with modern-day applications, providing a journey to completeness in Christ.

The book holds profound, spiritual significance for those believing in the coming Messiah, revealing how to live the Bride-kind of life until the Bridegroom returns.

Hiding behind the hands of time, Jesus is waiting…waiting to say to His anxious Bride, the Church, “Ready or not…here I come!”

Question: What is the “message” of your writing? (For example, is your purpose to encourage old-fashioned values, encourage romance, or do you have different purposes in different books?)

Answer: Since the Lord asked me to write for Him, it is up to Him what I write, which is basically devotionals and inspirational/creative stories to encourage others with biblical principles and how to live the life God desires for us. In other words, I write for the choir!

Question: Share something that makes you laugh, with just plain humor, or happiness, or because it’s so stupid.

Answer: LOL Okay. You asked for it. I love to play practical jokes on my husband. For instance, I have stapled his underwear shut, tied his socks end to end, hidden his toothbrush, short-sheeted him, and some others I can’t even remember. Writing this reminds me that I haven’t done anything to him in a while and pulling another trick would be a great surprise. What do you think? Should I?

Question: What’s the worst trouble you ever had with getting a book written (plots, finding needed information, getting a cover done)?

Answer: Ready or Not took years of research and writing and was almost published, but the publisher went under. Now, it sits on the shelf. I’m going to self-publish it, but it will be a little bit before it comes out.

Question: What is your writing style?

Answer: Not exactly sure how to answer this, so I’ll give you two answers in one. I research and gather notes, divide into chapters, for writing non-fiction in a conversational/teaching style. I try to make it pertinent, applicable, and personal. Still working on it!

Question: What is your current WIP?

Answer: I am currently working on a book about the journey of believers through life as we head toward our eternal Home and the bumps in the road we encounter along the way from life’s circumstances and the decisions that can lead us on the right path.

Question: Tell us one place you visited or person you met that made a big impression on you and why.

Answer: There is one person who set my whole life on the right track: Billy Graham. He came to Louisville for a crusade. My parents and grandparents gave a reception for him. I was 10 or 11 years old at the time. When I met him, I felt so tiny next to his towering frame. As I stared up into his crystal blue eyes, I thought I’d met Jesus. No, not that Jesus had blue eyes; it was just Dr. Graham’s presence. So commanding. So…full of God.

In the summer of 1957, we went to New York City to his renowned crusade of that time. I walked the concrete floor of Madison Square Garden to the tune of Just As I Am and accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Yup, that made a big impression on me!

Author Bio:

After being diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2000, the Lord whispered to her heart to write for Him. So, now, out of a great passion to obey His call, Lynn writes devotionals and inspirational stories to encourage the hearts of others.

Lynn is the keeper of a secret recipe for barbecue sauce, which she may share if you bribe her with enough chocolate. She’s a sock person and hunts for God’s treasures on the road Home, though she does get muddy sometimes.

She lives with her hubby (since 1966) in their Kentucky nest, emptied now of three kidlets and embracing three giggly grand-chicklets, and an inherited dog. ======================================================

  2. Insightful interview!
I’m so thankful for you Lynn, and your willingness to let God use you to inspire us. I loved your answer about your qualifications … ultimately, it’s being a child of God who yearns to do as He guides.
I’d read before how illness invaded your life, but not until this interview did I understand to what degree. That makes your writings all the more pertinent to “real” life … for myself and thousands of others.
    Wraparound Blessings Lynn!
