Our interview today is with Cindee Pruitt Bumpus aka Cynthia P. Willow. Thank you Cindee for being here today and for agreeing to do this interview.
Question: What do you think prepared you or qualifies you to write in your chosen genre?
Answer: Ever since I was a small child, I’ve been full of imagination. I created an imaginary friend when I was about 3 years old, and not only did I create her, but her back story too. That’s really the only qualification I have other than the Holy Spirit who I ask to lead and guide my writing.
Question: Tell us a little about your “real” (Non-writing) life — family, job, church life. Does it give you inspiration for your writing? Does it get in the way of your writing, or are there times when you get help, from people or circumstances?
Answer: I am a full-time mom, wife, and student. I’m a part-time writer. And honestly, certain times of the year, writing is done in my spare time. I have 3 children, a 16-year-old son, a 13-year-old daughter, and a 16-month-old daughter. I’m working on my BS in psychology and Christian counseling from Liberty University and I also homeschool my two oldest children. Life definitely gets in the way of writing. I have a lot of help from my older children and my mom, so I’m blessed.
Question: Tell us about things you enjoy — what you do for fun or personal satisfaction? Fun?
Answer: Time with my children and writing are the fun things.
Question: Tell us about working with any people who help you create your books — Do you use Beta readers? Hire an editor or proofreader? How do you get your covers?
Answer: I haven’t gone the Beta reader route yet. I have an editor I’ve been working with since 2006. Her name is Carol Fountain, and she proofreads and edits all of my work. My covers have been designed by Mary C. Findley and Samantha Fury.
Question: Since you have several books out, tell us what you think works for promotion. What are your thoughts on ebooks versus print books and different ways to let people know about you and your books?
Answer: I think online social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter are the best for promotion, but I have to say that one of the best ways for an author to get a fan base is to publish more books. Some readers don’t want to invest in an author if they know there aren’t more books out there to read when they finish the first one. All of my books, so far, are available in both ebook and print. I love to read a book in print, but I also love the convenience of my Kindle. I think if an author insists on only putting their books in print that they’re missing out on a big opportunity.
Question: Have you done anything writing-related, but besides your books, that seemed to get a lot of positive response? Something that encouraged you?
Answer: I have to write research papers for school all the time and I usually score well, but that’s not anything that gets published.
Question: Tell us about your newest book. Make us want to read it.
Answer: My newest book is the sequel to “Patty Gayle and the Legend of Kingsley.” It’s called “Return to Kingsley.” Both books are sold separately, but if you haven’t read either one, you can save some money by purchasing the 2-book bundle.
Question: What is your current WIP?
Answer: I’m currently working on the back story for my best-selling Christian Romance, “Hell’s Christmas.” It’s called “Hell’s Hallway,” and I’d love to have it out by the end of the year.
Question: How many books do you have out?
Answer: 6 including the book I published for my daughter, Ciella Naden
Question: What are your future projects?
Answer: Book 3 of “The Karini and Lamek Chronicles” (untitled), Book3 of “The Kingsley Adventures – Grizzly Gander’s Fireside Fables,” “The Fly That Got Stuck on the Fry,” “Letsy and the Labyrinth,” “Rinielle’s Ransom,” and “Storm’s Melody.”
