Many in the workforce are thanking God it’s Friday. Are they thankful to him for the ability and opportunity to work? Some might prefer unemployment checks; yet, they miss out on the fulfillment of finishing out another work week.
God never meant for Adam to dread his work.
“Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate it and tend it. The Lord God commanded the man, saying, ‘From any tree of the garden you may freely eat; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for on the day that you eat from it you will certainly die (Genesis 2:15 NASB).”
But Adam did eat from it. As a result, the land Adam tended was cursed. Work wasn’t cursed but it did become more of a challenge.
“Cursed is the ground because of you;
With hard labor you shall eat from it
All the days of your life.
Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you;
Yet you shall eat the plants of the field;
By the sweat of your face
You shall eat bread,
Until you return to the ground,
Because from it you were taken;
For you are dust,
And to dust you shall return (Genesis 3:17b-19 NASB).”
There is a sense of satisfaction when on the payroll or volunteering.
“Furthermore, as for every person to whom God has given riches and wealth, He has also given him the opportunity to enjoy them and to receive his reward and rejoice in his labor; this is the gift of God (Ecclesiastes 5:19 NASB).”
