Israeli Embassy Staffers Killed in D C.
Israeli embassy staffers Sarah Lynn Milgrim, 26, and Yaron Lischinsky, 28, were shot and killed Wednesday night outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D C.
The suspect, Elias Rodriguez, 30, of Chicago, was arrested at the scene and reportedly shouted “Free Palestine.” Federal authorities are probing potential terror links.
Milgrim, a peace advocate with two master’s degrees, had worked extensively on interfaith diplomacy and Israeli-Palestinian outreach. She was killed at an event focused on Gaza assistance.
The couple, described as deeply in love, were days away from a planned engagement.
House Passes Trump’s Budget Bill.
House Republicans narrowly passed former President Trump’s “One Big, Beautiful Bill Act” overnight Thursday in a 215–214 vote.
The package delivers deep tax cuts, ramps up border security funding, and imposes stricter requirements on Medicaid and food stamp recipients.
GOP leaders hailed the bill, but Democrats warned it would hurt poor people. The bill now heads to the Senate.
Plane Crashes Into San Diego Homes.
A small Cessna 550 jet crashed into the Tierrasanta neighborhood of San Diego early Thursday morning, killing multiple passengers and setting at least 15 homes ablaze as residents slept.
The plane, which departed from Teterboro, New Jersey, and refueled in Wichita, Kansas, was en route to Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport when it went down in dense fog just before 4 a.m.
Emergency responders reported a massive debris field, vehicles on fire, and widespread jet fuel spillage across the streets.
While no serious ground injuries have been confirmed, around 100 residents—mostly from military families—have been evacuated, and the National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation.
POLITICS.
The Supreme Court deadlocked 4-4 Thursday, with Justice Amy Coney Barrett recusing herself, on whether Oklahoma could provide taxpayer funding to a religious charter school. The tie vote upheld a state court ruling that prohibits such funding.
A federal district judge Thursday blocked President Trump’s executive order to close the Department of Education and ordered the reinstatement of hundreds of employees who were laid off after Trump took office.
The Department of Homeland Security is eliminating the student visa program at Harvard University due to “pro-terrorist conduct” at campus protests, meaning Harvard can no longer enroll foreign students in the 2025-2026 school year.
The Justice Department announced Wednesday it was ending lawsuits and proposed consent decrees against the police departments in Minneapolis and Louisville, originally launched after the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor in 2020.
