THE FLYOVER REPLAY,
Friday, January 10, 2025,
Good Morning! On this day in 1776, Thomas Paine published his revolutionary pamphlet Common Sense, presenting foundational arguments in favor of American independence.
In today’s edition, we continue our coverage of the devastating wildfires in California. Tens of thousands of residents have been evacuated, and others have lost their homes.
We hope you enjoyed reading today’s Flyover. Let us know how we’re doing by replying to Russell Sherrard at russellsherrard@reagan.com.

TAKEOFF,
America’s Presidents Honor Carter,
All five living U.S. presidents gathered at the Washington National Cathedral for the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter on Thursday, honoring the 39th president who passed away in late December at the age of 100.
The ceremony took on a collegial tone, with cameras capturing President-elect Donald Trump and former President Obama sharing a moment that resulted in laughter.
Former President George W. Bush also greeted Obama with a friendly gesture: a tap on the belly.
The two-hour service also featured posthumous tributes read by Carter’s grandsons as well as the sons of the former President Gerald Ford and Carter’s vice president, Walter Mondale.
Judge Blocks Biden’s Title IX Rewrite,
A federal judge in Kentucky struck down the Biden administration’s wide-ranging expansion of Title IX rules for LGBTQ+ students, finding that the Education Department overstepped its authority.
U.S. District Judge Danny C. Reeves found the administration’s 1,500-page document, which expanded the law’s scope beyond biological sex, violated the Constitution and the First Amendment. The ruling effectively ends rules that had already been blocked in multiple states.
The decision, which returns Title IX interpretation to its previous status quo, was made in response to a lawsuit filed by Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia.
LA Fires Kill Five, Force 180,000 to Flee
The iconic Hollywood sign gained a reprieve Thursday morning as firefighters successfully contained the Sunset Fire that erupted Wednesday evening in the Hollywood Hills, causing traffic chaos on Hollywood Boulevard.
Five other wildfires continue to ravage Los Angeles for a third day. The fires have killed five people, destroyed at least 4,000 structures, and forced more than 180,000 people to evacuate, with officials expecting the death toll to rise.
The largest blaze, the Palisades fire, has already consumed about 26.9 square miles along the coast.
More than 425,000 people remain without power, and infrastructure is severely damaged, though calming winds may give firefighters a chance to contain the blazes.
Among those who lost their homes in the fires are celebrities Paris Hilton, Billy Crystal, Adam Brody, and James Woods.
POLITICS,
The Supreme Court denied President-elect Donald Trump’s request to block sentencing today in his New York “hush money” case.
The Biden administration announced a new $500 million weapons package for Ukraine Thursday, sending munitions and equipment directly from existing U.S. military stockpiles.
GOP senators met with President-elect Donald Trump Wednesday, confirming that Trump wants to enact at least 100 executive orders, primarily focused on immigration.
The Senate voted 84-9 Thursday to advance the Laken Riley Act, a Republican-led bill addressing illegal immigration that has gained significant Democratic support.
