THE FLYOVER REPLAY.

Monday, May 19, 2025.

Good Morning! On this day in 1780, candles were lit at noon as an eerie darkness fell over parts of New England and southeastern Canada. The cause remains uncertain, but the leading theory points to a mix of forest fire smoke, dense fog, and thick cloud cover.

In its final run at Baltimore’s Pimlico Race Course before a major renovation, the Preakness got a fitting headline: a horse named Journalism surged from behind to win the 150th running.

We hope you enjoyed reading today’s Flyover. Let us know how we’re doing by replying to Russell Sherrard at russellsherrard@reagan.com.

TAKEOFF.

Biden Diagnosed with Advanced Prostate Cancer.

Former President Biden, 82, has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones, his office confirmed Sunday.

The cancer was discovered after he reported worsening urinary symptoms, prompting further evaluation that revealed a high-grade tumor (Gleason score 9).

While the disease is considered serious due to its metastasis, it is hormone-sensitive, allowing for potentially effective treatment options. Biden and his family are currently reviewing those options with his medical team.

President Trump expressed condolences and wished Biden “a fast and successful recovery” in a Truth Social post.

Mexican Ship Hits Brooklyn Bridge.

A tall Mexican Navy ship on a goodwill tour crashed into the Brooklyn Bridge in New York Saturday night after losing power and sailing the wrong way, killing two crew members and injuring 22.

The Cuauhtémoc, carrying 277 aboard, mostly cadets, was supposed to head south toward Iceland but drifted north instead, its 147-foot masts colliding with the bridge’s 135-foot clearance around 8:20 p.m.

Terrifying footage shows sailors dangling from rigging as the masts sheared off.

The Coast Guard says all three masts were destroyed, and the vessel remains moored at Pier 36 under a 50-yard safety zone as salvage plans develop. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident.

Nutella Peanut Coming to US in 2026.

Nutella is introducing its first new flavor in over 60 years: Nutella Peanut.

This blend of the classic cocoa-hazelnut spread with roasted peanuts is tailored for American tastes and will hit U.S. shelves in spring 2026.

Despite the addition of peanuts, Nutella Peanut is not intended to replace peanut butter but to offer a unique, snack-friendly option.

Production will take place at Ferrero’s Franklin Park, Illinois facility, which is undergoing a $75 million upgrade to accommodate the new product. This investment is expected to create 65 new jobs.

POLITICS.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, in an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press, dismissed Moody’s U.S. credit downgrade as a “lagging indicator” and blamed the Biden administration’s past spending for the rising debt that prompted it.

Also on Meet the Press, former Vice President Mike Pence said that President Trump’s proposed tariffs would be the largest peacetime tax increase in U.S. history and would raise costs for American consumers.

Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff said Sunday he expects a “successful” call between Trump and Putin today ending the war in Ukraine.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio dismissed a U.S. intelligence assessment that Venezuela’s government doesn’t control the Tren de Aragua gang, insisting instead that the regime exports and cooperates with the group.
