Democrats Meet Amid Planned Protests,

The Democratic National Convention opens tonight in Chicago with anti-Israel protesters massing and President Biden scheduled to take the stage and hand party reins over to Kamala Harris.

The week’s list of headline speakers includes Hillary Clinton on Monday night, former President Barack Obama on Tuesday, and former President Bill Clinton on Wednesday. VP candidate Tim Walz will also speak on Wednesday, and Harris will give her acceptance speech Thursday night.

There are at least six major protests planned during the convention, with the biggest expected on opening day, as tens of thousands demonstrate against U.S. support for Israel.

Several storefronts in Chicago have been covered in plywood as city business owners prepare for this week’s convention.

Quake Triggers Russian Volcano Blast ,

One of Russia’s most active volcanoes erupted Sunday following a 7.0-magnitude earthquake off Kamchatka’s east coast, spewing ash five miles high.

Scientists warn that a potentially stronger quake, up to magnitude 9.0, could follow within 24 hours.

Residents of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, a city of 181,000 near a submarine base, reported intense shaking, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage. The eruptions prompted a brief “code red” warning for aircraft.

List: Most Valuable Retail Brands,

Amazon remains the world’s most valuable retail brand for the ninth straight year, worth $308.9 billion according to Brand Finance’s 2024 report.

Walmart holds second place with a brand value of $96.8 billion.
