THE FLYOVER,

Saturday, August 24, 2024,

Good Morning! On this day in 79 AD, Mount Vesuvius erupted in southern Italy after centuries of dormancy. The eruption devastated the prosperous Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, leading to the deaths of thousands of people. The cities were buried under a thick layer of volcanic material and mud and were never rebuilt.

Speaking of Mount Vesuvius, here there are some photos of items recovered from Pompeii, such as frescoes, marble and bronze statues, and the preserved bodies of victims.

TAKEOFF,

RFK Jr. Suspends Campaign, Endorses Trump,

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced on Friday that he was suspending his campaign and endorsing former President Trump, ending days of speculation.

Kennedy cited internal polling and “systematic censorship” from the Democratic party as reasons for his decision. He also stated that he would withdraw his name from the ballot in battleground states but would remain on the ballot in states where it would not impact Trump.

Republican strategist Karl Rove suggested on Wednesday that an endorsement from Kennedy could help Trump in the key swing states of Georgia and Arizona.

A few hours after his announcement, Kennedy joined Trump at a rally in Arizona, taking the stage to loud applause and speaking about his decision to “throw his support behind President Trump.”

Secret Service Place Agents on Admin Duty,

The Secret Service has placed at least five agents, including the head of the Pittsburgh field office, on administrative duty following the assassination attempt on former President Trump during last month’s rally in Pennsylvania.

It’s unclear if all of these actions are disciplinary, since agents are routinely placed on leave during the course of investigations for various reasons, including mental health relief, according to reports. All agents remain employed but are barred from working in the field.

Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi declined to comment on whether the agents were placed on leave as the agency is still investigating how a 20-year-old gunman was able to fire eight rounds from a rooftop near where Trump was speaking.

Trump held an outdoor rally in North Carolina on Wednesday, his first since the assassination attempt.

List: Former Prisons Transformed into Luxury Hotels,

Several former prisons around the world have been converted into hotels, providing unique overnight stays for travelers interested in the notorious and sometimes allegedly haunted locations, with accommodations ranging from basic to luxurious. You can see the full list here.

At Germany’s ALCATRAZ Hotel, a former 19th-century jail and the country’s first prison hotel, guests can immerse themselves in prison life by staying in ex-cells, wearing striped pajamas and receiving breakfast through the doors’ tiny hatches.

Built in 1779, Bodmin Jail offers visitors an immersive experience in the grim conditions endured by prisoners, including cold, damp cells, hard labor, and a Victorian execution shed with a 14-foot-deep hanging pit.

One of Boston’s most lavish hotels, The Liberty, was once known as The Charles Street Jail. It housed notorious criminals like ex-mayor James Michael Curley and Malcolm X before closing in 1973 due to inhumane conditions.

White House national security spokesperson John Kirby announced Friday that cease-fire talks between Israel and Hamas will continue through the weekend, despite recent reports suggesting the agreement was nearing collapse.

The U.S. imposed sanctions on hundreds of companies in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East on Friday, accusing them of enabling Russia’s war effort against Ukraine and helping with sanction evasion.

Promote your book/ebook on twitter and anything digital. For example, Christian App. I can hear all the naysayers say that twitter is a cesspool and you can’t sell anything on twitter. I have been on twitter since August 2012. I am an author and I can tell you this is false. I have sold many, many books that I can track back to twitter. Before we go let me tell you about one of the books found on my Bookstore,

Go to https:// payhip.com/ Christian NonFiction eBookStore then scroll down and click on One Year Bible King James Version

This is a One Year Bible of the King James Version. The reason I call it a one year Bible is because it divides the Bible into 366 portions (leap years added) so a person can start reading this Bible from the beginning and spend just 15 minutes a day and can read the entire Bible in one year. I am working on an update to make this an audio Bible. Go to https:// public domain audio bibles.com/KJV.html This is a free app that will make any KJV Bible an audio bible.
