TAKEOFF.
Israel OKs Plan to Seize Gaza.
Israel’s security cabinet has approved a military plan to “capture” and hold territory in Gaza as part of a wider push to dismantle Hamas and retrieve hostages, an Israeli official announced Monday.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the operation aims to move Gaza’s population south “for its protection,” suggesting long-term occupation.
The plan, backed unanimously by Israel’s ministers, includes ramping up strikes, blocking Hamas from controlling aid, and expanding buffer zones.
UN-affiliated humanitarian groups condemned it, warning that it violates international law and endangers civilians and workers. Implementation is expected after President Trump visits the region in mid-May.
Trump Offers $1,000 for Self-Deportation.
The Trump administration has rolled out a new immigration policy offering illegal immigrants $1,000 and free travel if they voluntarily return to their country of origin.
The program, run through the Customs and Border Protection’s Home app, is designed to slash deportation costs by 70% and ease pressure on immigration enforcement, with one Honduran migrant already using it.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem called it the “safest and most cost-effective” option for both migrants and law enforcement.
Critics say it risks rewarding unlawful entry, though DHS argues it could leave the door open for legal immigration later. The program doesn’t bar migrants from applying to legally reenter the U.S. in the future.
List: Easiest and Hardest States to Save Money.
Tennessee, Missouri, Texas, and Oklahoma rank among the easiest U.S. states for saving money, driven by low costs of living and favorable tax structures, according to a new analysis.
Hawaii, California, Connecticut, and Vermont rank among the hardest due to high living costs and declining employment growth.
Southern states generally offer better savings conditions than coastal states, but they also face challenges such as lower incomes and higher debt.
The analysis weighed factors like interest rates, taxes, and local economic conditions.
POLITICS.
President Trump ordered the reopening and expansion of Alcatraz, closed since 1963, as a federal prison to house violent criminals and potentially illegal immigrants.
Trump also called for a 100% tariff on all foreign-made films, saying overseas incentives for filmmakers threaten America’s film industry.
The federal government restarted collections on defaulted student loans Monday, ending a pause that began in March 2020.
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp announced Monday he won’t challenge Sen. Jon Ossoff in 2026, a move that complicates plans for Republicans who viewed him as their strongest contender.

This work was first published in weekly installments over a twenty-year span in the London Metropolitan Tabernacle’s periodical, The Sword and the Trowel.
Completed sections were released volume by volume, until the seventh and final volume was released in 1885. Within a decade more than 120,000 sets had been sold. The Treasury of David is a superb literary achievement. Eric Hayden, pastor of the Metropolitan Tabernacle a century after Spurgeon’s ministry began there, calls this work “Spurgeon’s magnum opus.” Spurgeon’s wife said that if Spurgeon had never written any other work, this would have been a permanent literary memorial.
