Oregon Wildfire Nears Megafire Status.
Oregon’s Cram Fire has scorched nearly 96,000 acres near Madras, making it the largest wildfire in the U.S. so far this year and putting it on the brink of “megafire” status.
Fueled by dry, windy conditions, the blaze has destroyed multiple homes and forced evacuations in Jefferson and Wasco counties. Crews have reached 49% containment.
Meanwhile, the eastern U.S. and Midwest are facing severe thunderstorms and flash flooding threatening millions from Missouri to Maine. Heavy rain is dumping up to 4 inches per hour in parts of the Ohio Valley, while tornado warnings and damaging wind alerts stretch from Kentucky to New England.
A dangerous heat dome is gripping the central U.S., with heat indices expected to hit 115°F in cities like Chicago later this week.
$1,000 Baby Accounts Now in Effect.
Millions of U.S. babies born this year through 2028 are now eligible for $1,000 investment accounts under the “One Big Beautiful Bill” Act.
Known as Trump Accounts, the money must be invested in low-cost stock index funds and can’t be touched until the child turns 18.
Families and employers can contribute up to $5,000 annually, with the goal of promoting long-term wealth building.
Supporters call it a generational investment in financial literacy, while critics question its cost.
List: Most Stolen Car in Every State.
In 2024, over 850,000 vehicles were stolen across the U.S., with the Hyundai Elantra topping the list as the most stolen car in 20 states, according to new data.
The surge was largely caused by a lack of electronic engine immobilizers in models from 2011 to 2021. Viral social media videos exposed how easily these cars could be hotwired, fueling a wave of thefts.
Full-size pickups like the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and Ford F-150 were also frequent targets, particularly in rural and border states, driven by high demand for parts and interchangeable components.
POLITICS.
A federal judge ruled Monday that the Trump administration broke the law by shutting down a public database tracking how federal agencies spend taxpayer dollars.
The House GOP’s campaign arm raised $32.3 million in the second quarter of 2025, beating out the House Democrats’ $29.1 million haul. It marks the first time since 2021 the Republicans outraised the Democrats in both the first half and second quarter of an election cycle.
ICE Director Todd Lyons said the agency will arrest anyone in the U.S. illegally, even without a criminal record, as part of the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown. ICE has deported nearly 150,000 people this year, with the administration aiming for 1 million by year’s end.
The Trump administration unsealed 200,000 pages of FBI surveillance records on Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday.
The White House has barred The Wall Street Journal from traveling with President Trump on his upcoming trip to Scotland, citing “fake and defamatory” reporting related to Trump’s alleged ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
