THE FLYOVER REPLAY.
Wednesday, May 14, 2025.
Good Morning! On this day in 1904, the Third Olympiad and first Olympic Games held in the United States opened in St. Louis, Missouri, in conjunction with the World’s Fair—a spectacle so chaotic that one marathon runner stopped to eat apples mid-race, while another was chased off by a pack of wild dogs.
Today’s Wednesday Wisdom section channels our inner Navy SEAL—not to storm buildings, but to conquer chaos with cool-headed clarity. Read more below.

TAKEOFF.
Trump Secures Major Saudi Deal.
President Trump and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman signed a $142 billion arms deal and unveiled a broader $600 billion investment package during Trump’s visit to Riyadh this week.
The agreements include billions in military equipment, judicial and defense coordination, and major U.S.-bound investments in data centers and tech infrastructure.
In addition, Qatar Airways is set to announce the purchase of 150 Boeing aircraft during Trump’s state visit to Doha today.
The overall package features U.S. support for modernizing Saudi armed forces and came with much formality.
MLB Reinstates Rose and ‘Shoeless’ Joe.
Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred on Tuesday removed Pete Rose, “Shoeless” Joe Jackson, and 15 other deceased people from the league’s permanently ineligible list, ending their lifetime bans after death.
The decision, a major shift in baseball’s position toward gambling, opens the door for Rose, baseball’s all-time hit leader, and Jackson, caught up the 1919 Black Sox cheating scandal, to be considered for Hall of Fame induction starting in 2028.
Rose was banned in 1989 for betting on baseball while managing the Cincinnati Reds, and Jackson, a popular Chicago White Sox star, was banned in 1921. According to legend, a tearful young boy approached Jackson after he was expelled from baseball and pleaded, “Say it ain’t so, Joe!”
Rose died last September, never seeing his name on a Hall ballot. President Trump had called for his reinstatement earlier this year.
State Ranking: Income Needed to Buy a Home.
In nearly half of the U.S. states, a typical family of four doesn’t earn enough to afford a median-priced three-bedroom home, according to a new analysis.
The findings use a 6.65% mortgage rate, 10% down payment, and assume housing costs shouldn’t exceed 30% of a family’s gross income.
Hawaii ranks as the least affordable, requiring a $229,000 income to buy a $797,000 home, 41% more than the state’s median four-person household income.
California, Montana, Idaho, and New York also made the top five. By contrast, states like Ohio, Michigan, and Illinois offer the most breathing room, where typical family incomes outpace what’s needed for homeownership.
Thirty-five states and Washington, D.C., now require six-figure incomes for a family of four to buy a home.
