Scripture

Faith is what makes real the things we hope for. It is proof of what we cannot see. – Hebrews 11:1 ERV

Devotion

The difference between hot and boiling water is one degree of heat. A few inches can determine the outcome of a football game. One golf swing can determine a PGA Championship. One split second can bring victory in a Nascar race. I think one more degree, one more measure, one extra bit of determination can make all the difference between spiritual victory or defeat in our faith relationship with God.

Hebrews Chapter 11 is what some have called the “Hall of Faith.” It shows us the degrees, measures, and determinations displayed by biblical men and women of faith. People like Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Rahab, Gideon, Samson, David, and others who, through faith, defeated kingdoms, testified of righteousness in the midst of opposition, were made strong in their weaknesses, and some delivered from imminent death.

The great promise for believers today is that we all can access the same faith of these heroes. The first half of our verse for day speaks to faith as the foundation of what we believe. It’s our hope that someday this life will be gone and we will have an inheritance from God and our Lord Jesus Christ of an eternal life incorruptible and undefiled.

The second half of the verse tells us our faith is the evidence or proof of things unseen. Our faith is exercised in and through the conviction of what we believe. Our faith will be manifested in everyday life with the decisions we make, and the patience and trust we display based on the promises we hold true, not based on what we see.

As we face the challenge of this global pandemic, what does our faith look like? The Bible gives numerous examples of those with no faith, those with little faith, and those with great faith. Where are we on that scale right now? It is faith that pleases God (Hebrews 11:6). How solid is our foundation and what is the conviction of your faith right now? Perhaps we need to turn your faith up a degree or a good measure. Maybe take that action we’ve been putting off. Let us all prayerfully consider and create our own heroes of faith testimony.

Long Ago, when the Roman Empire was at the height of its glory, a common saying was “All Roads Lead to Rome.” I want to tell you about a very special road — a road that existed then and still exists now. This road, now almost 2,000 years old, has never led to Rome. Yet, strangely enough, it is called the Romans Road.

This takes the reader to selected passages in the Book of Romans in the Bible to explain the plan of Salvation. This is the ideal way to share the gospel using your Kindle. The reader can also read the entire book of Romans un-interrupted.
