And because you belong to Christ Jesus, God’s peace will stand guard over all your thoughts and feelings. His peace can do this far better than our human minds. – Philippians 4:7 ERV

Devotion

In Exodus 3, God appears to Moses and sends him back to Egypt to deliver his people. Having been in slavery for more than 400 years, this was a great moment for the Israelites. They had waited for their deliverance for so long, and finally, God shows up by sending Moses. Pharaoh resisted, but the Lord made him release the Israelites. “Only a great power will force him to let you go, so I will use my great power against Egypt” (Exodus 3:19-20 ERV).

After Pharaoh lets the Israelites leave, he changes his mind. “When he heard this, he and his officials changed their minds about what they had done. Pharaoh said, ‘Why did we let the Israelites leave? Why did we let them run away? Now we have lost their slaves'” (Exodus 14:5 ERV). He prepared his best chariots and followed the Children of Israel (v. 6).

When they saw Pharaoh pursuing them, the Israelites were terrified, gripped with fear. Their joy of leaving Egypt turned into mourning and sorrow. The Israelites were between Pharaoh and the Red Sea. They cried to the Lord and at the same time lamented to Moses (v. 10-11).

Moses responds by telling the people to not be afraid. “But Moses answered, ‘Don’t be afraid! Don’t run away! Stand where you are and watch the Lord save you today. You will never see these Egyptians again. You will not have to do anything but stay calm. The Lord will do the fighting for you'” (v. 13-14).

Moses was telling the people to have peace, despite their terrifying circumstances. This type of peace surpasses all human understanding. This is not our peace, but God’s peace. “And because you belong to Christ Jesus, God’s peace will stand guard over all your thoughts and feelings. His peace can do this far better than our human minds” (Philippians 4:6-7 ERV).

This is no ordinary peace. It’s easy to be still when life is going okay. But, God’s peace is the kind that we can have when everything has gone wrong. It is the kind of peace that Moses was asking the children of Israel to have, even with the dire circumstances ahead of them. We are called to be still, meaning to be calm, to be confident, to have no uncertainties, and to have total tranquility.

How can we attain it? What can keep us quiet in the Lord even when things around us are not right?

1. Be confident and courageous in whose you are and who you are in Christ Jesus. Be assured knowing where you have come from and where you are going.

2. Depend on God. Listen to God’s voice and trust in Him alone (Isaiah 26:3). The voices can be many in times of turmoil. Choose to tune in to God’s voice.

3. Give all your worries to God. He can take the burden. Give your worries to Him because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7 ERV).

Long Ago, when the Roman Empire was at the height of its glory, a common saying was “All Roads Lead to Rome.” I want to tell you about a very special road — a road that existed then and still exists now. This road, now almost 2,000 years old, has never led to Rome. Yet, strangely enough, it is called the Romans Road.
This takes the reader to selected passages in the Book of Romans in the Bible to explain the plan of Salvation. This is the ideal way to share the gospel using your Kindle. The reader can also read the entire book of Romans un-interrupted.
