Scripture
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. – 2 Corinthians 9:8 ESV
Devotion
All of us are imperfect. Thankfully, the perfect God always wants to work through the imperfect people. When we study the Scripture, we can understand that our God enjoys working with imperfect people. We are not worthy to work with the perfect God in any means, but our God is so gracious that He is gives us the grace to do every good work.
The best example is in the life of Abraham. Abraham is called the father of the nations but he also was an imperfect man like us. He had done nothing to deserve the blessing. He was an ordinary person who worshipped idols. During his life, he made several mistakes that showed his doubt and mistrust in the Lord.
First, the Lord said to him, “Get out of your country, from your family, and from your father’s house to a land that I will show you” (Genesis 12:1). God told Abraham to leave his people, but Abraham wanted his own security and protection so he brought Lot. But Lot caused problems along the way. Bringing Lot along was not the only mistake.
Next, God promised Abraham that He would be with him and protect him. However, when he entered unfamiliar lands, Abraham told his wife to lie and say she was his sister instead of his wife. Abraham was so afraid they would kill him to take Sarah, so he convinced her to lie. His fears overruled his trust in God. Because of his deception, Sarah was taken to the palace by two different kings. What a mess he created against God’s plan.
Sarah was also imperfect. When she got frustrated and thought God wasn’t allowing her to have children, she gave her maid to Abraham. He accepted her even though it was not God’s plan.
Abraham failed in many ways like us. He was so imperfect just like us. He was full of weaknesses just as we are. He acted foolishly many times. He struggled with trusting God and waiting on him in faith. However, the grace of God was sufficient for him. God used him mightily and he became the father of nations. The same God is giving us the same grace so that God can use us, even imperfect people like us.
