Charles Haddon Spurgeon

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“For the word of God is living and effective…” (Hebrews 4:12)
Holy Scripture is full of power and energy. The Word of God is that by which sin is slain, and grace is born in the heart. It is the Bible which brings life with it. How active and energetic it is, when the soul is convinced of sin, in bringing it forth into gospel liberty.

DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Speak, Lord, and if there is darkness make it light with your Word. Speak to any who are sleeping and awaken them. Speak to any who are heavy of heart and call them to rejoice. May we clash the high-sounding cymbals today, while we rejoice in the Lord who is our strength and our song, “he has become my salvation” (Isaiah 12:2). May we get us up to the high mountain today, and rejoice in him who calls us to mount and fly away. May our dwelling be on high.
Do you say to us, “Who may ascend the mountain of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place?” (Psalm 24:3). We desire that we may be men of that order, who would come near to you. We would be as near as Jesus is, so near, so very near to God, we cannot be nearer.
Amen.
