Question: What do you think prepared you or qualifies you to write in your chosen genre?
Answer: I have been married and a pastor for the past 40 years of my life.
Question: Tell us a little about your “real” (Non-writing) life — family, job, church life. Does it give you inspiration for your writing? Does it get in the way of your writing, or are there times when you get help, from people or circumstances?
Answer: I am married to my lovely bride of 40 years. We have two married children, a teen-age son at home and two granddaughters. We babysit most days for our grandkids and homeschool our son. I am a retired bi-vocational pastor and now author. I post daily devotions online.
My writings reflect more than anything else my faith. I am strong proponent of holiness and it characterizes much of my writings.
Question: Tell us about things you enjoy — what you do for fun or personal satisfaction?
Answer: I enjoy watching sports. I am a Chicago baseball, basketball and football fan. I also enjoy watching NASCAR racing. I enjoy being in Bible study fellowships and I enjoy reading the Word of God. My goal is to read through the Scriptures through for
every year of my life. I don’t know if I will accomplish it or not, but I am on my way.
Question: Have you done anything writing-related, but besides your books, that seemed to get a lot of positive response? Something that encouraged you?
Answer: People seem to respond well to my daily devotions that I post.
Question: Tell us about your newest book. Make us want to read it.
Answer: I have two unpublished books related to my first book, one is a study guide for ‘C Through Marriage’ and the other is on the making of a Christian marriage. I hope to see them in print someday.
Question: What is the “message” of your writing? (For example, is your purpose to encourage old-fashioned values, encourage romance, or do you have different purposes in different books?)
Answer: My message in all of my writings is to do life God’s way. I am a firm believer in the fact that we are here to help each other find eternal life and if my writings help someone in some way, then my life will be a huge success.
Question: Share something that’s amazing, touching, or that makes you angry.
Answer: I find the workings of God in and through me absolutely amazing. I am so unworthy to be able to do what I do. I am so blessed. I often wonder why the Lord chose me to be who I am and to do what I do. It also amazes me how believers can be so
lackadaisical about holy living. Jesus is both Savior and Lord, not just Savior or Lord.
Question: What’s the worst trouble you ever had with getting a book written (plots, finding needed information, getting a cover done)?
Answer: For me, the writing process was the easy part. My thoughts just flowed and I attribute it to the Lord’s guiding hand. They came naturally and I consider the whole process to be a labor of love for the Lord.
Question: How many books do you have out?
Answer: C Through Marriage is the only book I have out at this time.
Question: What are your future projects?
Answer: In addition to the books that are in the wings, I would like to see my daily devotions compiled together and published.
Question: What is your writing style?
Answer: Direct and to the point.

Five Stars And Thumbs Up For This Much Needed Book For Married Couples November 20, 2013
This book is so thorough on the needs of marriage. Jim Hughes’ insight about marriage can benefit husbands and wives alike. His views are so balanced, not placing more accountability on men than women or women than men. It’s so refreshing to find a read like this. And there are other good books out there like this. But as a wife, I find that there aren’t enough marriage books that examine the hearts and needs of a woman in the same regard as they are examined for the husbands. Well, this book does that – while remaining Biblical. I appreciate this author’s diligence in validating the unspoken issues that can too often plague a marriage.
This is actually formatted for private devotion as well as for couples’ group devotions. The chapters, which are all very relevant and essential discussion points, takes readers through lessons of reality and encouragement. As a lengthy book, it serves as a timely read. I’d recommend it, not only as a excellent read for couples (preferably as devotion together), but also as a much needed reference. Couples who could greatly benefit, learn, mature, and especially develop self-examination through reading C Through Marriage would be those who are in troubled marriages (even in crises), engaged couples, and even happily married couples. Keep it. Shelve it. Refer back to it. And by all means, tell other couples about it.
Now, I have to go back and re-read it out loud with my husband.
