Numbers is the fourth book of the Pentateuch. It is named for the numbering of the people of Israel. However, it was known to the Jewish people as “In the Wilderness”, because it primarily tells of the forty years of wandering in the wilderness before entering the promised land. After the exodus from Egypt, the Israelites rebelled against God. Because of this rebellion, only two men of all the adults who left Egypt were to enter into the promised land of Canaan.
