Peppermint candy is a good way to end any meal. Biting my tongue is the worst. The self-inflicted pain can last for hours. Maybe God is trying to tell me something. Tongue biting hurts me; flames of gossip and backbiting will hurt others and spreads like wildfire.

“See how great a forest is set aflame by such a small fire! And the tongue is a fire, the very world of unrighteousness; the tongue is set among our body’s parts as that which defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course of our life, and is set on fire by hell (James 3:5b-6 NASB).”

Juicy gossip is a deadly poison.

“But no one among mankind can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people, who have been made in the likeness of God; from the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. My brothers and sisters, these things should not be this way. (James 3:8-10 NASB).”

Mankind can’t tame tongues; the Lord provides the antidote of self-control.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.  Now those who belong to Christ Jesus crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

If we live by the Spirit, let’s follow the Spirit as well (Galatians 5:22-25 NASB).”
