We’ve all had the experience of breaking in new pairs of shoes. At times it’s painful. Rubbing against heals or toes the wearer feels pain with each step. A blister forms before long and pain increases. Unconsciously, we place our weight on the other leg and foot. Are new shoes worth it?
I’ve covered blisters with band aids. True, they didn’t remove my sores; they were still there. Yet, they provided comfort and relief from my pain. Thinking about common blisters sheds light on Apostle Paul’s plight.
He turned to God. “…there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to buffet me-to keep me from exalting myself! Concerning this I entreated the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfected in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may dwell in me (2 Corinthians 12:7b-9 NASB).”
Something had rubbed Paul the wrong way; it was like a blister that couldn’t be ignored. I’ve heard that he may have been afflicted with a serious eye condition. God’s remedy was His grace. It was, is and always sufficient.
What’s your blister? It just might be a blessing in disguise.
