TAKEOFF.
Hegseth Calls Surprise Military Meeting.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has called the nation’s top military officers to a surprise in-person meeting next week in Virginia, including top officers overseeing troops in conflict zones.
The purpose of the meeting was not disclosed. The order applies to officers with the rank of brigadier general or above or their Navy equivalent, along with their top enlisted advisors. About 800 generals and admirals are spread across the world.
Military leaders are said to be worried by the directive, with some fearing the announcement of another reduction in force.
In May, the administration ordered a 20 percent cut to the ranks of four-star generals and admirals and 10 percent of the military’s generals and admirals.
Former FBI Director Comey Indicted.
Former FBI Director James Comey was indicted by a grand jury on two counts, centering on whether he lied to Congress during his Sept. 30, 2020, testimony about his handling of the original Trump–Russia probe at the FBI.
Prosecutors claim Comey falsely said that day that he hadn’t “authorized someone else at the FBI to be an anonymous source in news reports” regarding the FBI investigation. Comey said Thursday he was innocent of the charges.
The indictment came a few days after Trump publicly called on Attorney General Pam Bondi to seek criminal charges against Comey, who will reportedly turn himself in on Friday. His arraignment is set for 10 a.m. on Oct. 9.
Trump celebrated the indictment on Truth Social, saying Comey “has been so bad, for so long, and is now at the beginning of being held responsible for his crimes against our Nation.”
Ryder Cup Tees Off in New York.
The Ryder Cup, golf’s most patriotic event, begins today in New York as Team USA faces Team Europe in a highly anticipated showdown backed by a loud American home crowd.
Held every two years, the event features 24 of the world’s best golfers competing in team-based match play across three days. Team USA leads the all-time series 27–15. The European team won the last Cup in 2023.
President Trump plans to attend the event at Bethpage Black, a famously difficult Long Island course known for its narrow fairways, deep rough, and strategically placed bunkers.
Fans pay up to a top-tier price of $750 to get through the gates at Bethpage, but tickets include unlimited free concessions. However, beers start at $15, and cocktails climb as high as $29.
