Good Morning! On this day in 1940, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt was nominated for a third term. He would later be elected to a record four terms, the only U.S. president to serve more than two terms.

Trump Diagnosed With Vein Condition.
President Trump was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency after doctors evaluated swelling in his lower legs, the White House said Thursday.
The condition, common in older adults, occurs when leg veins struggle to return blood to the heart, causing swelling and discomfort, but it’s not considered serious.
Testing ruled out blood clots and heart problems, and press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump feels no discomfort and remains in “excellent health.” Treatment may include exercise, leg elevation, or compression therapy.
Lightning Kills 1, Injures 14.
One man is dead and 14 others, including eight children, are injured after a lightning strike at the Black Knight Bowbenders archery range in Jackson Township, New Jersey, on Wednesday evening.
The group was outside when lightning struck the ground nearby during a thunderstorm.
Robert Montgomery, 61, an instructor, died from his injuries, and others were hospitalized with burns and other symptoms.
It’s the second lightning death in New Jersey in just over a week, and the 12th nationwide this year.
Connie Francis Dies at 87.
Connie Francis, the chart-topping singer of Who’s Sorry Now and star of the film Where the Boys Are, died Wednesday at 87.
One of the best-selling female artists of all time, she sold over 200 million records and became the first woman to top the Billboard Hot 100.
Just weeks before her death, Francis was enjoying a surprise resurgence: her 1962 track Pretty Little Baby exploded on TikTok, featured in over a million videos, and topped the app’s viral music charts.
The renewed popularity even brought Francis to the platform herself, where she told fans she was “flabbergasted” by the revival of a song she barely remembered recording. She spent her final days knowing her voice still resonated—across generations, and across time.

The GOP-led Senate voted 51–48 to approve $9 billion in spending cuts to foreign aid and public broadcasting, including NPR and PBS, sending the White House-backed bill back to the House ahead of Friday’s deadline.
After a record 9-hour standoff, the House passed a key procedural vote 217–212, setting up final floor votes on three major crypto bills, including one to ban a government-backed digital dollar.
Maurene Comey, who led high-profile cases against Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, and Sean “Diddy” Combs, said she was fired without explanation from the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office this week. The Justice Department confirmed the termination but declined to say why.
The Senate Judiciary Committee approved Emil Bove for a federal appeals court seat and Jeanine Pirro for U.S. attorney in D.C. on Thursday, prompting Democrats to walk out after debate was cut short.
