Severe Weather Kills Five.

Severe weather turned deadly this week as storms in Oklahoma and Pennsylvania left at least five people dead and hundreds of thousands without power.

Slow-moving thunderstorms flooded dozens of Oklahoma roads Wednesday, drowning at least two people trapped in their cars.

At least three people died in Tuesday night storms across Pennsylvania, which knocked out power to 400,000, with 71 mph winds damaging buildings, toppling trees, and blowing the roof off a beloved Pittsburgh pizzeria.

Pennsylvania officials said Thursday that more than 400 crews were working to restore power to over 100,000 customers, with recovery threatened by ongoing strong winds, heavy rain, and possible isolated tornadoes.

Trump Removes Waltz, Taps Rubio Instead.

National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and his deputy, Alex Wong, were ousted Thursday following fallout from a Signal group chat leak involving U.S. strike plans in Yemen.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has been tapped to serve as acting national security adviser while holding his current role. Waltz, who took responsibility for adding a journalist to the group thread, will now be nominated as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

Waltz was reportedly spared an earlier dismissal because Trump didn’t want to sack a high-profile figure before reaching his 100-day milestone in office, which he reached Tuesday.

World’s Oldest Person Dies at 116.

Brazilian nun Sister Inah Canabarro Lucas, who was the world’s oldest person, died in Porto Alegre at age 116 on Wednesday.

A lifelong member of the Teresian Sisters and a devoted soccer fan, Sister Inah credited her longevity to faith, routine, and discipline.

Her passing passes the title to 115-year-old Ethel Caterham of Surrey, England. Caterham, born in 1909, is the last living subject of Edward VII.

A former au pair and Army wife who lived in India, Gibraltar, and Hong Kong, Caterham now resides in a nursing home and says her secret is “never arguing with anyone” and simply doing what she likes.

POLITICS.

The House passed a resolution on Thursday by a vote of 246–164, overturning the Biden administration’s waiver that allowed California to ban new gas-powered car sales by 2035, with 35 Democrats joining Republicans in the rebuke.

A federal judge ruled Thursday that President Trump’s attempt to use the 18th-century Alien Enemies Act to deport alleged Venezuelan gang members from South Texas is unlawful.

Elon Musk said Thursday at the White House that his first 100 days leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) have been “very intense,” claiming $160 billion in taxpayer savings but acknowledging, “we haven’t been as effective as I’d like.”

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard declined to rule out a 2028 presidential bid during an interview on Thursday.
