THE FLYOVER REPLAY,

Monday, February 3, 2025,

Good Morning! On this day in 1913, the 16th Amendment to the Constitution was ratified, creating a federal income tax. It called for a 2% tax on incomes above $4,000, essentially a tax on the wealthiest 1% of that era.

Sunday was Groundhog Day, and in case you missed it, Punxsutawney Phil did indeed see his shadow, indicating six more weeks of winter. By all accounts, a record crowd watched happily amid the fireworks and partying, and that’s really the goal.

TAKEOFF,

Canada, Mexico Punch Back at U.S. Tariffs.

Canada and Mexico are implementing retaliatory tariffs on the U.S. after President Donald Trump enacted tariffs on those two nations, as well as China, on Saturday.

Canada will impose a 25% tariff on goods, including beverages, cosmetics, and paper products, beginning Feb. 4, with broader tariffs on the horizon.

Mexico said it will retaliate also but didn’t offer specifics. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke by phone Saturday, but it isn’t clear whether the two nations will make a coordinated response.

Meanwhile, Trump acknowledged on Sunday that Americans could feel “some pain” as a result of the emerging trade wars.

The tariffs on Canada and Mexico are set to go into effect Tuesday morning just after midnight.

Super Bowl Ads Ready to View.

Super Bowl LIX kicks off next Sunday in New Orleans, and as always, big-budget TV ads will be a major part of the show. Here’s a collection of top commercials you can preview ahead of the game.

The ads this year include a Billy Crystal-Meg Ryan reunion, Shania Twain in a coffee ad, Matthew McConaughey impersonating former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka, and much more.

Super Bowl ads this year are running about $8 million per spot, up 88% in the last 10 years and 20,000% since the first Super Bowl in 1967.

Between the ads, there’s also a football game scheduled to be played between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.

List: World Leaders’ Approval Ratings.

A new study shows the approval ratings of 24 world leaders during the first month of the year, and most of the names topping the list won election or re-election in 2024.

India’s Narendra Modi got the highest marks with a 75% approval rating, while Mexico’s Claudia Sheinbaum and Argentina’s Javier Milei nabbed the next two spots at 66% and 65%. President Donald Trump was fifth at 52% approval.

Among the bottom 10—those with the highest disapproval ratings—were Britain’s Keir Starmer, Canada’s Justin Trudeau, Germany’s Olaf Scholz, and France’s Emmanuel Macron.

The rankings are based on data collected by Morning Consult between Jan. 21–27, 2025.

And Now a Word from Our Sponsor, Interactive Romans Road New King James Version.

Go to https:// payhip.com/ Christian NonFiction eBookStore then scroll down and click on Interactive Romans Road New King James Version. Long Ago, when the Roman Empire was at the height of its glory, a common saying was “All Roads Lead to Rome.” I want to tell you about a very special road — a road that existed then and still exists now. This road, now almost 2,000 years old, has never led to Rome. Yet, strangely enough, it is called the Romans Road.

This takes the reader to selected passages in the Book of Romans in the Bible to explain the plan of Salvation. This is the ideal way to share the gospel using your Kindle. The reader can also read the entire book of Romans un-interrupted.
