THE FLYOVER REPLAY.

Monday, April 7, 2025.

Good Morning! On this day in 1969, the Defense Department’s Advanced Research Projects Agency published the first digital document on a shared computer network, which is often regarded as the symbolic birth date of the Internet.

Today, we’re spotlighting 94-year-old Judith Viorst, who takes us through decades of reinvention in a charming essay that proves personal style only gets better with age.

We hope you enjoyed reading today’s Flyover. Let us know how we’re doing by replying to Russell Sherrard at russellsherrard@reagan.com.

TAKEOFF.

Trade Negotiations in Full Swing over Tariffs.

At least 50 countries have approached the Trump administration to negotiate new trade deals as a wave of international tariffs begins to take effect.

Vietnam, which sells far more to the U.S. than it buys in return—making it one of the largest contributors to America’s trade gap—said Sunday that it is “ready” to remove all tariffs on U.S. goods ahead of the country’s 46% levy, set to begin April 9.

Meanwhile, the European Union is expected to approve retaliatory tariffs on up to $28 billion worth of U.S. imports in the coming days, escalating trade tensions.

President Trump is urging Americans to “hang tough” as negotiations continue, saying the goal is to “bring back jobs and businesses like never before.” Meanwhile, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures dropped 1,531 points, or 4%, on Sunday evening.

Progressive Wave Targets Veteran Democrats.

A wave of young progressive Democrats is challenging veteran incumbents, reflecting deep frustration within the party over its direction and aging leadership.

UConn Women Blow Out South Carolina.

The UConn Huskies dominated the South Carolina Gamecocks 82–59 to win the women’s college basketball national championship, avenging their loss in the 2022 title game.

It was a repeat of UConn’s blowout win earlier this season when they snapped South Carolina’s 71-game home winning streak.

Claiming their 12th national title, the Huskies return to the top of the women’s game for the first time since their four-year championship run from 2013 to 2016.

Ayla Brown, a former Division I basketball player, American Idol contestant, and future host of The Flyover podcast—performed the national anthem before tipoff.

Long Ago, when the Roman Empire was at the height of its glory, a common saying was “All Roads Lead to Rome.” I want to tell you about a very special road — a road that existed then and still exists now. This road, now almost 2,000 years old, has never led to Rome. Yet, strangely enough, it is called the Romans Road.

This takes the reader to selected passages in the Book of Romans in the Bible to explain the plan of Salvation. This is the ideal way to share the gospel using your Kindle. The reader can also read the entire book of Romans un-interrupted.
