Officials were notified of the breach on Dec. 8. During the breach, the group remotely infiltrated the Treasury’s cloud service and workstations to acquire unclassified documents.
The Treasury has collaborated with the FBI, CISA, and the intelligence community to investigate the breach and assess its impact, according to officials.
One security expert described the technique of exploiting third-party services as a prominent method used by China-linked groups.

Actress Linda Lavin Dies at 87,
Award-winning stage and television actress Linda Lavin, star of the beloved sitcom Alice, died Sunday. She was 87.
Lavin was recently diagnosed with lung cancer but continued working, promoting her new Netflix series, No Good Deed, and filming the comedy series Mid-Century Modern.
She made her stage debut at the age of five, and her big break occurred in the 1960s when a string of Broadway hits led to multiple Tony nominations and one win.
Her success on stage and roles in Barney Miller and Alice earned her enduring fame, leading to decades of steady work, with one producer calling her “a magnificent actress.”
