Verse of the Day and Devotion

I rejoiced with those who said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.”   – Psalm 122:1 NIV

Devotion

When they asked me to go with them to church, I didn’t object. I didn’t try to beg-off with a lame excuse about something or other that I had to do instead. There was a time in my life when I would have objected and begged-off. Indeed, there was a time when I would have said anything to get out of going to church. To me, at that time, church was strange, boring, and seemingly useless. If, somehow, they talked me into going anyway, then I couldn’t wait to get out of there. I thought church may be right for some people, but it wasn’t right for me.

Things changed when I came to know Jesus Christ. I came to know that there was no way that I could make things right between myself and the Lord God on my own. I came to know that I was a sinner in desperate need of the salvation that could only come from believing in Jesus and what He had done. What had He done? He was born of a virgin, He lived a sinless life, He paid the penalty for my sins by dying on the cross, He was raised back to life, and He ascended into heaven and was seated next to the Lord God. From there, He has been ruling and reigning ever since.

Now, then, instead of objecting and begging-off going to church, I whole-heartedly agree to go. I rejoice with those who invite me to go. For me, going to church is a joy, rather than a chore. It is my opportunity to publicly praise, worship, and thank the Lord for what He has done through Jesus Christ. It is also my opportunity to learn more about my faith and have it built up and strengthened. Isaiah said, ‘”Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.'” (Isaiah 2:3)

Why don’t you come with us? Why not come with us so that together we can praise, worship, and thank the Lord God for everything He has done? We will learn more about our faith and we will have it built up and strengthened as well.
