Devotion
The psalmist begins Psalm 10 with these honest and raw questions. They are rough, direct, real. Are they disrespectful? Perhaps even condemning? Think about it for a second. What do these questions bring up in your heart?
Do you ever have thoughts like this? The questions almost seem blasphemous. You may feel ashamed of these types of questions. You may feel the same type of anxiety or frustration. The writer is troubled by the things he sees around him. Evil. Wickedness. Greed. Cursing. Lying. People benefiting from the weak and the poor. Injustice.
What an encouragement to see the following question in God’s Word. “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? We see these words in Matthew 27 as Jesus is on the cross. Through His darkest valley, Jesus kept talking to God. He asked Him a rough and honest question, one with a deep spiritual desire and love for His Father.
Eli Wiesel is a survivor of the holocaust and writer of Night, a memory of one of humanity’s darkest and most evil events. He said in one of his speeches about his Jewish faith: “One can be a Jew for God, one can be a Jew against God, but one cannot be a Jew without God.”
Even in your darkest moments, do not go without God. God hears when the world refuses to listen. And Jesus understands and went through the darkest valley for you. Please, keep asking your questions to Him and explore His words to you.
