Are you joyful? If you’re a Christian, then you have a lot to be joyful about. Our verse for today mentions three things in particular that Christians can be joyful about.
First, our disobedience has been forgiven. We live in God’s world, and God has upheld certain standards for humankind from the beginning of the world. Since the fall into sin, however, humans fail to properly meet the standards. We sin. We disobey. If nothing had been done about this, we would be doomed to eternal destruction. But something has been done about this. Jesus Christ paid the penalty for our sins by dying on the cross for us. If we believe in Him and what He has done for us, then our disobedience is forgiven.
Second, our sins have been put out of sight. Not only is our disobedience forgiven, but God refuses to look upon our sins. Our sins are not abolished from existence, but removed from the sight of God. God does not examine them under a microscope. He does not keep an eye on them at all times. Rather, He removes them from His sight because He has forgiven us for them. One might say that God does not want to remind Himself of our sins by continuously looking upon them. He would rather see us as forgiven beings.
Finally, our records have been cleared. Not only does God forgive us of our sins, not only does He put our sins out of sight, but He also clears any record of them that may have been kept. No one, including God, will be able to go back to the records to see what sins we have committed. It’s a good thing too, for as David said, “LORD, if you kept a record of our sins, who, O Lord, could ever survive” (Psalm 130:3)? The records would always be there to haunt us. The records would always be there to challenge our forgiveness. No one’s record would ever save them.
Today, you may be unhappy about some things. Today, there may be trials and troubles wherever you turn. Be joyful anyway! For your sins have been forgiven, removed from sight, and expunged from the record books.
