crossProv. 31:10-12 Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is worth more than precious rubies. Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life. She will not hinder him but help him all her life.

In a world that no longer holds marriage up with the values that it used to, today’s verses remind us to marry with integrity. Much of the problems couples have today could be avoided if more thought was given to whom we marry. A virtuous and capable wife doesn’t just become that way after she is married. The character of the heart is established long before the wedding ceremony. It is essential for the success of the marriage that the couple takes the time and puts in the effort to find a companion that has godly character before a commitment is made to marry.

A spouse who is godly in heart is worth waiting for. It is much better to never marry than to marry someone who is not compatible with you spiritually. If a couple is unequally yoked together all kinds of discord will crop up in the marriage.

It is a wonderful thing to be in a marriage where trust is not a problem. It bodes well for life outside the home when there is no fear that one’s spouse may act in an ungodly way outside the home. The life of a couple who trusts each other is enriched greatly.

The goal of any marriage ought to be to help, and not hinder, each other’s life. When a couple lives this way, their marriage is truly blessed with much happiness.

The character of the heart determines the character of the marriage.

C Through Marriage came into being through many years of pastoral and life experiences. The book first took on a life of its own over 20 years ago when I sought to address the much publicized moral failures of prominent leaders in the church. In the chapter on Chasity, I include the guideliness that I developed then to protect one’s self from such failures.

I am a firm believer in order to make sense out of life you have to use much common sense. We need to get back to the basics of what has worked for many, many generations. If is isn’t broke, why try to fix it? I strive to return to the basics of what really works in all my writings.
